Barbie dolls have never exactly been lifelike. It’s always the same blonde with a smile plastered to her face. It’s about time for a makeover, wouldn’t you say? The newest set of dolls from Mattel’s Barbie Fashionistas line is doing just that.
The Fashionista line will include Barbies with eight different skin tones, 14 different facial sculpts, 18 eye colors, 22 hair styles, and 23 hair colors, making Barbie a little more like you and me.
Another big change is that the new line of dolls will include flexible feet, meaning Barbie can finally wear flats. You might have noticed that her feet are permanently perched in a pair of 4-inch heels…and that can’t be comfortable. As a tall girl who gets the urge to strut in pumps very rarely, I’m thrilled. Now when Barbie is heading to one of her hundreds of professions, she can wear sneakers like a normal person.
There’s no word on if an official Mattel plus-size Barbie is in the works, but the doll is definitely making strides. One small, much more comfortable step for Barbie, one huge leap for womankind.
