By now we all know that Disney/Pixar films are unbelievably upsetting. How most of them are rated G, I have no idea. The Lion King was the first movie I ever saw in theaters, and I’m still traumatized TBH.
But I digress.
The company’s newest film, ‘Inside Out,’ is being released in theaters today, and although I won’t be running to it as quickly as I did with Spy, I’ll at least be doing a quick walk. Mainly because Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, and Bill Hader are in it.
The story follows five emotions- Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Rage- all of which are battling for control of the child’s personality and ultimately, her memories. In this case, they’re working with Riley, an 11-year-old girl who has spent her life being mostly happy, thanks in large part to the work of Joy, who is voiced by Amy Poehler. Yet when Riley’s parents move her from Minnesota to San Francisco, strange things start happening. Happy memories and whole personality traits start fading away and imploding, replaced by… nothing. This movie is essentially about what happens when a happy young girl starts to become angry, sullen, and depressed. Sounds great, right?
Talk about a total tear jerker. Regardless, I love cartoons. And the characters are cute, so I’ll definitely be going. I just have to remember to bring my tissues.
