A Penn State senior studying abroad has died after falling from a balcony in Seville, Spain early on Saturday morning.

University spokesman L. Reidar Jensen said Spanish authorities were continuing to investigate the death of Lauren Bajorek, but that early indications reveal that her death was an accident.

Bajorek was a senior finance major from York, Pennsylvania. She had just completed a eight-week study abroad internship program in Spain at Alter Technology TÜV Nord. Lauren was an active member of the Pennsylvania State University community – she played the french horn in the Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphonic Band and was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi.

“We are all deeply saddened to learn of Lauren Bajorek’s passing and offer our sincerest condolences to her family and friends…” said a statement from Penn State. “We send heartfelt sympathies to all whose lives were touched by Lauren.”

The university said that counseling services are available to anyone who wants to talk about Bajorek’s death.

We’ll continue to update you with emerging details of this tragic event, but we know the PSU community will pull together to support each other, as they always do.
