It’s only fitting – after all, we’ve seen more celebrity breakups in the last few days than we did in a single season of The Hills. And while a lot of these breakups have involved couples who have been married for years, this one is just as shocking: Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards have split. We have it on good authority that the former One Direction hottie ended things with his gorgeous ex-fiancee.
PEOPLE reports that this split isn’t quite fresh – Zayn allegedly reached out to Perrie two weeks ago and said that it was over, which sounds like a sort of abrupt way to call off an engagement. According to reports, Perrie is (understandably) devastated about the whole thing.
We obviously don’t know Zayn (if only) but we can only guess that the singer is in the process of figuring out who he is and what he wants in life. Between quitting One Direction and ending his long-term engagement, he’s obviously been shaking things up recently. It’s something we can all relate to, right?
For her part, Perrie stood by Zayn through his decision to leave 1D. If this news is all true, we can’t help but feel for the Little Mix singer.

We aren’t really sure how to feel about this news. On the one hand, they were so friggin’ cute together and they seemed genuinely happy and in love. On the other hand, at 22, both Zayn and Perrie are so young. To each his own, but I might argue that they’re too young to get married at that age – especially since both Zayn and Perrie haven’t been able to just enjoy being normal 20-somethings. Oh, and let’s not pretend we’re not all thinking it: The fact that Zayn is single again means that we have a (very, very, very, very small) chance with him.
