Will the 2024 Olympic Games be held in the United States? That’s to be determined, but if it is, Los Angeles will be the host city. The City of Angels is moving forward with its bid to host the Olympics after a week of delays over concerns about the potential costs to taxpayers.
The City Council voted, 15-0, on Tuesday to authorize Mayor Eric Garcetti to sign an agreement with the United States Olympic Committee over bidding for the Games. The city has been negotiating with the U.S.O.C., and the two sides had hoped to reach an agreement by this week. LA comes to the rescue after Boston, the U.S.O.C.’s original choice to bid for the 2024 Games, backed out earlier this year with concerns about costs.
If the Olympics do end up in Los Angeles, just imagine the celebrity sightings! The biggest athletes in the world mixed with Hollywood’s elite…we can only imagine the Instagram photos.
Other cities hoping to host the games in 2024 include Paris, Rome, Hamburg, and Budapest, but many cities are happy to not host — it can cost a pretty penny.
