The VMAs this weekend gave us a lot to talk about, but Justin Bieber finally cleared up why he got so emotional after his performance on Sunday. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host asked why the Biebs broke down. Bieber confessed,
It was just so overwhelming for me. Everything, just the performance. I missed some cues so I was a little disappointed at that, and just everyone, their support. I just wasn’t expecting them to support me in the way they did. Last time I think I was at the VMAs or the last time I was at an awards show, I was booed.
Justin Bieber went on to explain that it’s easy to feel judged despite working so hard, but that moment where he started crying onstage was “authentic” and “real.” Not to mention…his junk was being pulled by the harness, as Jimmy pointed out.
