If you ask me, we have not been hearing enough new music from Sam Smith lately. I guess it’s worth the wait, because his soothing voice will be behind the song “Writing’s on the Wall,” which has officially been announced as the theme song for the new James Bond film, Spectre.
Rumors started spreading on Labor Day when Smith posted this cryptic Instagram photo that seems to show him wearing a ring with the logo for criminal organization SPECTRE—Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion.
We didn’t have to speculate long about the meaning of the photo long. Smith released a statement today announcing the huge honor.
This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honored to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.
The 23-year-old singer co-wrote “The Writing’s on the Wall” with with fellow Grammy Award winner Jimmy Napes.
Sam Smith has some big shoes to fill! Adele sang the theme for the James Bond film Skyfall in 2012 and won the Oscar for Original Song. We have a feeling Smith’s Grammys might have some company on the shelf soon…
