Most of the time our interest in the British Royal Family centers around Kate Middleton’s fashion choices or the latest pic of Prince George being adorable, but let’s not forget the HBIC. As of today, September 9, 2015, Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning British monarch of all time, beating out previous record holder (her great-great-grandmother) Queen Victoria.
Princess Elizabeth’s father took over the job and became King George VI. King George led the country through the second world war but in 1952 he died of lung cancer. Princess Elizabeth was his eldest child. She became Queen Elizabeth II. Here she is at her coronation in June 1953. Isn’t she lovely?

So the 89 year old has been ruling since 1952, when she took the throne at just 25. That’s 63 years for you non-math majors. So yeah, she’s been rocking that crown longer than most of our parents have been alive.
Turns out being Queen for so long grants you some pretty awesome perks. Check out these fun facts on Queen Elizabeth II and her power.
