9 Reasons I Like Sorority Girls (As Told By The Dude)

Scene: Basement of a frat house. You’ve got Mindy leading you around trying to find the cute boy who told her about this party and find him sucking face with a beach blonde future Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member. Fast forward to the next morning, and you notice the Barbie doll is in a ponytail and sweats taking notes in your elective. You’re dismissed and determined to figure out if she’s “hooking up” with the senior known as Chaz follow her, but get deterred by the frenzied shrieks coming down the hallway by big brazen letters (symbols?) looming on their chests. These strange and fantastical creatures of the girl world that wear matching outfits during recruitment, sometimes scare off innocent bystanders with chants, and can be found at most every school sanctioned event with banners and philanthropic smiles are known as sorority girls. Here are some reasons I like them!

1. They have poise

The perfectly content giggle before asking their friends to hold their drink while they pop a squat behind a bush and smoke the butt of a cigarette has a certain je ne sais quoi, but these girls are the best at snapping necks just by walking past you.

2. They’re playful

They know how and when to antagonize you, and how and when to bat their eyelashes. They even sometimes cross their lines and take whatever comes their way with them.

3. They’re open-minded

They may have gotten peer pressured to go to their first recruitment event, but they have since continued thinking about that decision, looking at the other options on campus (from student government to their rival sorority), talked with their parents about it, and decided to commit to this for the duration of their “college experience”.

4. They’re social

Like it or love it, these girls are always in packs, and most of the time they own that sh*t. Nothing better then a group of smiling girls laughing on their way to class or dancing at the bar.

5. They’re team players

After high school sports, I made the quick and simple transition into Greek Life solely due to the fact that we all had similar goals. I read something somewhere about women meeting their bridesmaids in college, and I bet it has something to do with being like-minded.

6. They’re competitive

They will funnel that beer, they will challenge you in flip cup, and they will kiss their best friend for effect. Those colors do not run.

7. They’re resourceful

Organized, crafty, and efficient, I’ve never seen better planned events, miraculous makeup and outfit repairs, or elaborately decorated paddles done up over the course of a semester or put out on the spot.

8. They’re individuals

They aren’t defined by their sorority – they help define their sorority by the way they present themselves. And if you think for a second you’re dealing with a changeless face in the crowd, they’ve usually got 50+ girls in the same organization to act as a stark contrast to the one you’re talking to.

9. They’re empowered

Sorority women always have a strut that is incomparable to any other force of human nature. Business professional, through the double doors of a frat castle, or walking into the arms of a crying sister, their inner power can ooze indomitable.
