On what would have been Paul Walker‘s 42nd birthday, Meadow, the late actor’s daughter, launched a new foundation honoring him.
Meadow posted to her Instagram page yesterday, Saturday, Sept. 12, a touching image of the daddy-daughter duo, where Paul is seen holding Meadow as a baby. With the image, she announced the launch of her new project:
Reflecting on my father, I found myself reflecting on his passions. His passion for the ocean, his passion for rescuing animals, his passion for helping people and his passion for spontaneous goodwill. I wanted to start this foundation because I want to share that piece of him with the world. I want to share that part of him with others. I am tremendously proud to be launching The #PaulWalkerFoundation (@paulwalkerfdn) on his birthday. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my father. #DoGood
The Paul Walker Foundation will not only aim “to protect oceans and wildlife,” but will also “provide grants and scholarships to selected students and researchers pursing marine science educations or working on advancements in the field,” according to their official site.
Although Paul was best known for his gigs on the big screen, he had an underlying passion for all things ocean and wildlife-related. Just last year, Paul’s father told E! News the ocean was “his magical kingdom and the other was the racetrack,” so naturally, the foundation’s simple mission to “DO GOOD” speaks volumes.
“The Paul Walker Foundation is to serve as an enduring light of Paul’s unique spirit, far reaching goals, and spontaneous goodwill. Many of his traits have been passed onto his daughter Meadow. Meadow is excited to be carrying on his legacy. One of the key ways she plans to meet this challenge is by helping ocean leaders of tomorrow become beacons in the fight to protect our oceans, wildlife, and ourselves,” the mission statement elaborates.
The Fast & Furious star died in a car crash in Santa Clarita in 2013 when the driver of the Porsche he was in suddenly lost control and slammed into a tree causing the car to burst into flames. He was 40-years-old at the time.
