Lammily Dolls Are Big Girls Now That They Get Their Periods

Dolls come with lots of accessories from high heels to hairbrushes, but now one realistic doll maker is offering a pack of mini-menstrual pads too.
The Lammily Doll collection is known for having a more realistic body shape along with real girl problems such as pimples and cellulite – some things that don’t seem to affect Barbie. Now, the makers of the Lammily Doll are taking another step into humanizing the doll by introducing its first “Period Party” accessory package featuring 18 colored pads, a pair of underwear, and an educational pamphlet.
“It’s just what happens in real life,” creator Nickolay Lamm told TIME. “We wanted to put it on the doll so it’s not a scary thing.”
The doll also comes with a calendar to help Lammily track her own menstrual cycle. It’s unclear if the doll actually menstruates, but according to the doll’s site, there’s no red fooding coloring included.

As a young girl, talking to your parents about your period can be weird and uncomfortable, so introducing the topic by using a realistic doll is very clever. Why couldn’t they have thought of this sooner?!
