This morning, a woman who is suspected of drunk driving crashed into a crowd watching Oklahoma State University’s (OSU) homecoming parade in Stillwater has killed three people and injured 22 others. The car swerved into the spectators blocks away from the college campus, turning a fun event into a scene of horror. The university’s president, Burns Hargis, has called the scene an “incredible tragedy.”
The driver, Adacia Avery Chambers, 25, of Stillwater, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving according to Kyle Gibbs of Stillwater’s police department. She is not believed to be an OSU student.
The parade came about four hours before the school’s main homecoming event: a football game between OSU and University of Kansas at Stillwater’s Boone Pickens Stadium. The names of those who were killed and injured were not immediately released. Those critically wounded were flown to a hospital via helicopter.
Despite the tragedy, the football match is to proceed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Oklahoma State and those affected.
