California College Student is the First American Confirmed Dead in Paris Attacks

The Los Angeles TimesĀ reported today that Cal State Long Beach student, Nohemi Gonzalez was killed in yesterday’s terrorist attacks in Paris. Gonzalez was 23-years-old and studied design. She was in Paris as part of an exchange program with the Strate School of Design.
TheĀ New York Daily News reported that she was killed at one of the restaurants targeted by the terrorists.
Her boyfriend, Tim Mraz, wrote a heartbreaking Instagram post. He wrote:

“Yesterday I lost the most important person in my life. She was my best friend and she will always be my angel forever. I am lost for words. My prayers are with her family. Such a bright soul and the sweetest girl with a smile on her face.”

Michael LaForte, a lecturer at Cal State Long Beach’s department of design wrote that Gonzalez was “kind, thoughtful, generous and [a] talented student, dear to all who knew her. We grieve for her today and give our hearts to her grieving family and boyfriend.”
The University will hold a vigil November 15 to mourn her death.
