If Donald Trump can run for president, then certainly celebrities (at this point) could enter the political arena, too. Anything’s possible.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Will Smith hinted that he has an interest in politics. He said:
“I’m working really hard and my storytelling is elevating, my ability to be eloquent with my body and with my voice and to deliver ideas as an actor is elevating. As I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me. … This is the first year that I’ve been incensed to a level that I can’t sleep.”
Will Smith stated that his late grandmother would be proud of him if he followed his political dreams. Frankly, I’d feel a lot better about American politics if Will Smith was in the fray. If he screwed up, we’d never know about it because he has that Men In Black flash device. We’d be a blissfully ignorant population under Politician Smith.
Smith is not the only celebrity who has political ambitions. Alec Baldwin and Rob Lowe have stated that they’re interested in politics as well. Even Kanye West stated that he wanted to run for president.
Perhaps we will see Will Smith as a presidential candidate in 2020.
