With holiday shopping now in full swing, people are racing to the stores to buy gifts for their loved ones for the holidays at lower prices. Although Black Friday might have passed, Cyber Monday is where it’s at for many. The “holiday,” which encourages people to shop online rather than in stores, is today. More and more people are relying on Cyber Monday for their holiday shopping rather than Black Friday. However, both these holidays have their ups and downs. So, here are the pros and cons of Cyber Monday.

Pro: No waiting in long lines or getting up at 3 a.m.

You won’t see people pitching up tents outside of stores for Cyber Monday. You can do all of your shopping online from the comfort of your own home in your pajamas.

Con: When the product is out of stock.

Like Black Friday, once a product is gone for Cyber Monday, it’s gone, especially if it’s a good deal. You’ll have to wait around and hope the gift that you want to get is back in stock before the price for it goes back up.

Pro: Better deals on clothes.

Craving that blue dress for the New Year’s Party you got invited to? Guess what? It’s on sale for 50% off today. According to Mirror, “On the past two Cyber Mondays, there were an average of 45% more clothing deals than on Black Friday. There were also 50% more shoe deals on Cyber Monday than on Black Friday.”

So, if you know your size in the back of your head, go for it and buy the dress. If it doesn’t fit, you could always return it later.

Con: Electronic deals are better on Black Friday.

If you’re looking to buy a new laptop on Cyber Monday, tough luck. According to Mirror, “Black Friday boasts nearly 85% more data storage deals than Cyber Monday. As well as this, Black Friday is the only day that Apple products have any kind of discount at all.” So much for that new Macbook Pro you’ve been craving.

Pro: Going shopping on websites all at one time.

Instead of racing to a million stores before the crowd inside builds up, you can just open up a new tab or window on your computer and start shopping away. You can treat yourself and find that perfect gift for mom all at the same time.

Con: Everyone else is going shopping on websites all at one time.

The competition in the stores may be tough, but it’s just as tough on Cyber Monday. Remember, everyone else wants those same good deals that you want. So, if you’re not quick enough, too bad. Also, too many people on a website at once can also cause the server on the website to crash, so be prepared for that.

Pro: No wasting other people’s time trying to find your credit or debit card.

Take as much time as you can to find that credit card in your purse. There’s no one waiting in line behind you.

Con: Higher risk of credit card theft on Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday is not only the perfect holiday shopping day, but it’s also Christmas for credit card thieves. An article from Consumer Affairs states, “The risk is greater because they are making their purchases online, where a data breach or one-on-one hacking can expose shoppers’ financial information. Nearly 13 million U.S. consumers were victims of some type identity theft last year.” Watch where you shop and stay safe and alert.
