Just when we thought Zooey Deschanel naming her new daughter Elsie Otter (yes, like the sea creature) was weird, we find out people are using Instagram filters as inspiration for their little bundles of joy.
Have. Mercy.
Yes, we all love Instagram filters for giving us a faux tan in the middle of January and making our blemishes disappear better than makeup, but naming your child Amaro or Reyes? Too much.
Yet it’s happening.
BabyCenter.comm just released a report on top baby name trends for 2015, and names for both boys and girls are inspired by Instagram.
Filter-inspired names that made the list include: Lux (up 75 percent since last year), Ludwig (up 42 percent), and Amaro (up 26 percent).
Reyes, Hudson, and Kelvin are also on the rise for boys, while Valencia, Juno, and Willow are gaining popularity for girls.
Let’s all just agree to keep Mayfair and X-Pro II out of this, okay?
For the record, the top names are pretty standard (and totally predictable. Literally every little kid I baby sat was Emma or Jacob). Check below for the top 10 baby names for girls and boys in 2015.
