Michael Joseph Allen, a student at Clemson University, was found dead near the campus’ Memorial Stadium. According to school officials and the Coroner’s Office, it is believed that Michael fell 120 feet from the top of the South stands to his death. No foul play is suspected, but the cause of death is still unknown as an investigation is under way.
Officials were called to the stadium on Tuesday morning after a stadium employee found him around 8 a.m. They do not believe his body was there for long.
Clemson’s vice president for Student Affairs, Almeda Jacks, said, “Our hearts go out to the Allen family, friends and his fellow classmates. A death is always hard, for it impacts us all, but even more difficult at this time of year. We send our thoughts and prayers out for the loss of this member of our Clemson family.”
Michael, 18, from Atlanta, Georgia was a freshman at the school.
With finals approaching and freshman year being so overwhelming, it’s natural for our minds to go to suicide. Though we don’t know if this is the case with Michael or an accident, if you’re feeling stressed, get help. Colleges should have counseling available.
Our thoughts go out to Michael’s family and friends as well as the Clemson community.
