Say hello to Noma Dumezweni, the actress who will play our favorite smarty-pants witch Hermione Granger in the new Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play in London.
You might notice that Dumezweni is black.
While we will forever love Emma Watson’s portrayal of Hermione, no one ever said Hermione was white. Harry Potter author JK Rowling points out that the book describes Hermione as having “brown eyes, frizzy hair and [being] very clever. White skin was never specified.”

To be honest, Hermione was always great with polyjuice potion.
Dumezweni is an Olivier winner for her role in A Raisin in the Sun and will make her directing debut next February, so she sounds like an awesome choice for the role.
Noma Dumezweni will be joined on stage by Jamie Parker and Paul Thornley, who will play Harry Potter and Ron Weasley respectively. You might notice that the actor portraying Ron isn’t a ginger! But don’t worry, writer Jack Thorne assures doubters that Thornley is “ginger in his soul.”
