From her early days on SNL to her new movie Sisters co-starring good friend Amy Poehler, Tina Fey is one of the most versatile Hollywood comedians out there. Not only has she acted on screen both on television and in movies, but she has also produced and wrote several different projects, notably Mean Girls and 30 Rock. So, how much is this versatile Hollywood starlet worth really worth?
Tina Fey’s Net Worth As Of 2018: $45 Million
Here’s how Tina Fey made it to the millions.
Tina Fey was first hired as a writer for Saturday Night Live in 1997 after Adam McKay, who was the head writer at the time and a former member of the comedy troupe she performed with, The Second City, convinced her. In 1999, McKay stepped down as head writer and Fey was chosen by creator Lorne Michaels to take his place, making her the first female head writer of the show.
After first appearing as an extra on SNL in 1998, Fey soon became a regular performer on the show in 2000, notably co-anchoring with Jimmy Fallon on the popular sketch The Weekend Update. When Fallon left in 2004, Amy Poehler was brought in to take his place on The Weekend Update.
While working on SNL, Fey made her motion picture writing debut with the movie Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan. Fey also co-starred in the movie as Ms. Norbury, the math teacher. The movie was released on April 30, 2004 and made over $129 million worldwide. The film also received an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has since developed a cult following.
Tina continued to work on SNL as head writer and cast member until 2005.
In October of 2006, the pilot episode for Fey’s show 30 Rock premiered on NBC. The show, which she created and starred in and is based on Fey’s years as a writer for SNL, is about the head writer of a comedy sketch show and how she manages her life behind the scenes and away from the studio, including her relationship with her arrogant network executive (Alec Baldwin). Even though the show received positive reviews, it only placed third on its timeslot. Despite this, the show was renewed for a second season in October 2007 and a third in October 2008. The premiere episode of the third season, “Do-Over,” drew in over 8 million viewers, the highest rating of all time for the show. 30 Rock won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series for three years in a row, from 2007-2009.
In 2007, Fey became one of the New York Post’s “50 Most Powerful Women In New York.” She also became one of Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainers of The Year in both 2007 and 2008 as well as becoming one of Forbes’ 100 most powerful celebrities from 2008-2012.
In 2008, Fey returned to SNL to host the show. She also made guest appearances on SNL during that year to portray vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Tina’s impression of Palin became so notable, it became the factor for her win as Associated Press’ Entertainer of The Year. She would also perform her impression of Palin again in 2010 and in 2011.
Fey then reunited with Amy Poehler for the film Baby Mama. The movie was released on April 25, 2008 and made over $64 million at the box office. Tine also appeared in the films Date Night, co-starring Steve Carrell, and Megamind, co-starring Will Ferrell, in 2010. Megamind became Fey’s most commercially successful film to date, earning over $320 million worldwide.
In 2011, Fey released her autobiography Bossypants, which became a New York Times Bestseller. From the sales earned from her book and from producing, Tina made $13 million in 2011. That same year, Fey earned her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In January 2013, Fey once again teamed up with Amy Poehler to host the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards. The duo hosted again for two more years.
After seven seasons and receive over 110 Emmy Award nominations, 30 Rock’s ended its run in 2013. Its series finale, Hogcock!/Last Lunch, became regarded as one of the greatest TV finales of all time. It was also named the 21st best written TV series of all time by the Writers Guild of America. By the time the show ended, Fey earned $500,000 for each episode.
Tina continued to appear in several different television shows and films throughout 2013 and 2014 including Anchorman 2, Muppets Most Wanted, and This Is Where I Leave You.
2015 – 2016
In March of 2015, Fey’s next hit series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt began streaming on Netflix, even though it was originally produced for NBC. The show stars Ellie Kemper as Kimmy Schmidt, a girl who tries to maneuver her new life in New York City after escaping from a doomsday cult. The show garnered positive reviews, with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fey also made a guest appearance on the show, but I won’t spoil when she makes that appearance if you haven’t seen it yet. In July, the show became nominated for seven Primetime Emmy Awards, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series. The show has been renewed for a second season and is set to start streaming on Netflix in 2016.
Fey’s next movie, Sisters, which she produced and co-stars alongside with Amy Poehler once again, was released December 18. Currently, it holds an 62% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes since its world premiere on December 9.
With the release of Sisters and the upcoming second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on the way, Tina will continue to charm us with her versatile comedic ways, whether she’s on the camera or behind the scenes, while also increasing her bank account.
Although Tina hasn’t revealed any upcoming movie projects, that doesn’t mean she’s idling. Tina continues to work on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. On February 13, 2017 the series announced that a third season was underway and would be available on Netflix on May 19, 2017.
Tina Fey is to reprise her role as Diana St. Tropez on ‘Great News’ Season 2.
