Muslim Woman Ejected From Donald Trump Rally After Staging A Silent Protest

On Friday, Rose Hamid, a Muslim woman, was ejected from a South Carolina presidential campaign rally for Donald Trump after she stood silently behind Trump to protest his remarks. Hamid, along with another person, stood up at the rally when Trump began to speak about Syrian refugees and ISIS.

She drew the fury of the crowd although she, I cannot stress this enough, did not say anything. The crowd first began to chant Trump’s name and pointed at Hamid to signify her presence. She was then booed and had “get out” shouted at her as she was escorted away.

The 56-year-old told CNN that someone from the crowd shouted, “You have a bomb, you have a bomb.” Hamid wore a shirt to the rally that read “Salam, I come in peace” and, despite the ire of the majority of the crowd, said that the people around her were “very sweet.”

In an interview prior to the rally, Hamid told CNN:

“I figured that most Trump supporters probably never met a Muslim so I figured that I’d give them the opportunity to meet one. I really don’t plan to say anything. I don’t want to be disrespectful, but if he says something that I feel needs answering I might – we’ll just see what strikes me.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has asked Trump to publicly apologize to Hamid. Given Trump’s current track record when speaking about and engaging Muslims in the United States, I think we can all agree that he won’t be issuing an apology any time soon. In fact, I’d imagine that he doesn’t believe any wrongdoing occurred at the South Carolina rally.

Trump has called on the United States to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the country, citing reasons of national security. He has also stated that he has “no regrets” about those comments and that he is not a bigot. He has used the time-old tradition of “I have friends who are [insert religion/ethnicity/sexuality here] so I can’t be a bigot!” In an interview with Barbara Walters in December, he said, “I have people that I have tremendous relationships with, they’re Muslim, and Barbara, they agree with me 100 percent.”

Somehow, I highly doubt that. Provide me with actual transcripts of these conversations you’re having with your Muslim friends and perhaps I’ll reconsider, Trump.

Hamid’s protest is the latest in a string of protests occurring at Trump rallies. She refuses to think of Trump’s supporters as a danger. She believes that “people in all camps are decent people when you get to know them, as was evident by the people who were around me. But it’s when you get that hateful rhetoric going [that] is what incites people.”

Does it need to be said that it’s absolutely preposterous that we have a man in the presidential running who would like to kick out an entire group of people based on their religion alone? Trump clearly needs to refresh his memory on the tenets of the First Amendment. The Founding Fathers are rolling around in their graves.
