Morgan Freeman Performed A Dramatic Reading Of “Love Yourself” By Justin Bieber

You all know that there’s nothing like the warm, melodic voice of Morgan Freeman. He has the power of easy lulling you to sleep as well as commanding you to do something you otherwise would rather be reluctant to do (such as your homework this weekend). Luckily for you, it turns out that Freeman has decided to use his powerful voice for good this week.

I can’t believe it took four months since the release of Purpose by Justin Bieber before we got a Morgan Freeman cover of “Love Yourself.” This should have been a bonus track on the album as far as I’m concerned. Vanity Fair posted a video of the actor dramatically reading the lyrics of Bieber’s hit song. You can watch the video via YouTube below.

Freeman opens up the video, deadpanning, “I’m going to do a dramatic reading from a very popular songwriter.” He doesn’t even crack a smile.

He periodically glances from an iPad screen to the camera, adding in wry smiles, eye rolls and dramatic pauses when necessary. Arguably, the best part is when Freeman deadpans the chorus. Freeman begins the infamous chorus, “My mama…didn’t like you,” and pauses to stare into the camera before delivering the final blow, “And she likes everyone.”

I can’t be the only one who is a little disappointed that Morgan Freeman isn’t a Belieber and had to read the lyrics off a screen, right?

Bieber appeared to appreciate Freeman’s rendition as the singer retweeted the video numerous times to his personal Twitter account.

I mean, how could you not like this version? It’s Morgan freakin’ Freeman – you’d be a fool not to.
