Amazon Says Passwords Are ‘Awkward,’ Wants To Replace Them With Selfies

Our favorite drunk shopping retailer, Amazon says passwords are “awkward” and is looking into other ways you can pay for that cheesemaker and adult coloring book. Aka by taking a selfie. Ah yes, because me trying to take a photo where it doesn’t look like I have a double chin is less awkward than typing 8 characters.

Amazon filed a patent application for the technology, which would allow customers to take a picture or short video of themselves to authenticate payments.

Yes, you heard that correctly.

This facial recognition system is more secure and will ensure that it is definitely the customer making a purchase, not a hacker. (Apparently). TBH, when it comes to hackers,¬†I feel like where there’s a will, there’s a way. But I digress.

In order to prove that you are a living breathing human being and not just a scan of a previously taken photo, users will be required to blink, smile, or tilt their head.

Sounds like a pain in the a** if you ask me, but maybe it’ll curb your late night urge to shop if you have to take a photo of yourself after five margaritas.
