You might think that celebrities, even moreso the Kardashian-Jenner family, stick to super clean foods such as kale to maintain their health, but you would be wrong. Kourtney Kardashian actually begins her days by swallowing a teaspoon of butter, allegedly for her health, according to a blog post on her website.

Kardashian’s blog post talks about the merits of ghee, a special kind of clarified butter that originates from India. It is made by simmering unsalted butter and allowing the liquid to evaporate. She explains that ghee is believed to be healing to both the mind and body.

The 36-year-old continued to explain that ghee is “rich in oil-soluble vitamins, A, D, E and K, as well as K2 and CLA antioxidants…[it’s] categorized as a healthy fat, like coconut oil, meaning the fatty acids are absorbed directly into the liver and burnt as energy.”

Kardashian shared that she drinks a “big teaspoon of ghee every morning…and drink it out of a cute little ceramic white cup. After I take it, I don’t eat anything for 20 minutes, and then I drink a glass of water before eating food.”

She additionally noted that she only only cooks with ghee and coconut oil in her kitchen now.

Kourtney said that she first learned about ghee and its health benefits from her “Nana” on her late father’s side of the family. She said, “[She] actually taught my mom how to make ghee and she has been cooking with it since I was a little girl, so my sisters and I always used it, not even knowing what it was called or any of the benefits.”

While Kourtney Kardashian’s figure is certainly something to be admired and perhaps something to even strive for, keep in mind that ghee’s fat calories come primarily from saturated fats. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advise a limited intake of such fats. It’ll take a lot more than a teaspoon of butter in the morning in order to maintain your health.

You should probably stick to organic kale, as awful as it sounds.
