The season 10 finale of the hit television show The Voice took place last night and the winner was epic for a big reason: this was the first year a female coach won the competition overall. Christina Aguilera’s finalist, Alisan Porter took home the first winning title for team Christina, who has been very insistent on wanting a female to coach to win. Blake Shelton has previously coached four winners, Adam Levine has won with three, and Pharrell Williams and Usher have both coached one winning contestant each.
On Monday’s show, Aguilera was not the only one raving about Porter’s vocals. Even Adam Levine, who had his own team member competing for the title, stated that Porter had the vocals and deserved to win the show. Aguilera went on to praise Porter after her performances.
“If anybody deserves to take the cake and be the winner of The Voice, it’s you, Alisan,” said Aguilera. Thank you so much for trusting me. You’re an inspiration for everybody and anybody that literally has a dream and just wants a second chance. You’re the definition of The Voice.”Mark Davis | Getty Images for Favored.by
This was a great end for both Porter and Aguilera. Throughout the season, Porter, a wife, mother and former child star, wished to prove that anyone with a family could achieve their dreams, which she emphasized by holding her child on stage after she was named the winner.
Porter told People Magazine “I’m proud of the season. I think it was such a strong season of incredible performances. I’m just grateful to be a part of it. The ride doesn’t end here. I’m going to keep going and making as much music as humanly possible.”
Aguilera will not be on the judges panel next season, but she has definitely left her mark. Both Aguilera and Williams are leaving the show to make room for first-time judges Alicia Keys, and Miley Cyrus.
