The holy month of Ramadan is rapidly approaching as an important time to the Islamic religion.  Ramadan will begin in the evening of Sunday, June 5, 2016 and conclude on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. However, Ramadan doesn’t always fall on the same exact dates.

Here are the start and end dates for Ramadan from 2017 to 2020:

May 27, 2017 – June 25, 2017
May 16, 2018 – June 14, 2018
May 6, 2019 – June 4, 2019
April 24, 2020 – May 23, 2020

The date of Ramadan is based on the Islamic lunar calendar. Ramadan always takes place on the ninth month of this calendar. Throughout these 30 days, Muslims all over the world will fast from sunrise until sunset. The fasting includes refraining from eating food, drinking any beverages, smoking and sex. In the Islamic religion Ramadan is a time to dedicate further attention to God and exercise self-discipline and sacrifice.

Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam. The other four consist of testimony of faith, prayer, almsgiving and pilgrimage.
