Olympic Athletes from Great Britain Strip Down For a Really Bizarre Message

Three Olympic athletes from Great Britain going for gold in Rio this summer have stripped down to their lingerie to show that a sporty body is a sexy body. Um… couldn’t they prove that without being objectified?

The confusing campaign was apparently made to encourage girls to continue on with their PE lessons. Apparently more than half of high school girls drop out of sports after the age of 13 due to negative experiences with PE. The athletes are saying to keep it up if you want a sexy bod.

On the left, we have Stef Reid, who despite having lost her right foot in a boating accident when she was 16-years-old, became a two-time Olympic medalist. Born and raised in New Zealand, she snatched a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics in the track and field category, and then a silver medal in the long jump at the 2012 London games. This summer in Rio, she’s eyeing for gold.

On the right is windsurfer Bryony Shaw. The 33-year-old won a bronze medal at her Olympic debut in London 2012 – the first ever women’s windsurfing medal for Great Britain. Standing at just 5’4, she’s the smallest on the windsurfing team. But great things come in small packages. She combines considerable upper body strength with sturdy leg power in a sport where she may look like she’s doing nothing, but is exerting enough energy for you and I to run six miles.

In the middle is one of Team Britain’s youngest contenders. 18-year-old skeet shooter Amber Hill from Windsor won gold at the 2015 European Games in Azerbajan. That gold medal opened the doors to Rio – her first Olympic games. Way to go Amber.

These women are inspirational with their clothes on. Couldn’t that have been the message? Way to fail us.
