Miami officials state that Karla Vasquez, a 32-year-old bartender, faked her own kidnapping so that she could ditch her husband, Daniel Pacheco, in order to spend time with her lover.
According to the New York Daily News, the whole shenanigan began at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. Vasquez called Pacheco during his graveyard shift to tell him that she needed help and told him to come home. Pacheco, however, thought that she was joking and hung up the phone. An hour later, he received a text message from Vasquez asking for help.
When Pacheco called her, she told him that she was inside the house and that she saw two people inside her parked car in the driveway. He subsequently rushed home and found that both Vasquez and the car were missing. Pacheco then called her again and she said that she had been kidnapped.
He alerted the police – who used the GPS system in her car and phone to track her down. She was found driving at 3 p.m. in the car she claimed to have been kidnapped in.
She was arrested for falsely reporting an alleged crime.
It is stated in the police report that Vasquez told the cops that she was never home and instead went to a bar where she met the other man and “decided to spend the night with him.” The phone also contained photos of Vasquez smiling in various locations throughout the city.
“Knowing that she was not in danger, [Vasquez] deliberately caused her husband to call the police and report a kidnapping,” her arrest report stated. “[Vasquez] at no point was in need of police assistance.”
