Gigi Hadid has been seen everywhere — gracing fashion runways, magazine editorials, campaigns and music videos. Now the 21-year-old beauty can add American Vogue to her resume. Gigi appears on her first U.S. cover for the important magazine for the August edition. She has done other great Vogue covers for Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia and Paris. Gigi appears on the Olympic issue so of course, it’s fitting that she poses along with the decathlete Ashton Eaton.
Gigi has Olympic roots thanks to her father, Mohamed, who competed in downhill skiing in the 1992 Winter Olympics. Gigi considers herself athletic as well, being an avid volleyball player in high school. The supermodel and Eaton bond over their love of Santa Barbara, the place they both call home. Gigi is a native while Eaton trains there.
The magazine’s cover story also makes the connection between Gigi’s best friend, Kendall Jenner, and her relation to another well-known Olympic decathlete, Caitlyn Jenner, who won gold in the 1976 Olympics held in Montreal. Eaton of course, is a fan of Caitlyn and her success.
Gigi shared this milestone with her Instagram followers. “An ultimate dream come true, I am beyond humbled. Shooting my first American @voguemagazine cover, in my hometown, was so surreal,” Gigi wrote. “And to be able to share it with Olympic Gold Medalist and my new friend #AshtonEaton is such an honor.”
“I couldn’t think of a cover I’d rather be on than the one celebrating athletes. Being an athlete has brought so much pride and joy to my life and has instilled the work ethic that still drives me every day.”
