Remember Winona Ryder? She was the sh*t back in the day, when The Heathers and Edward Scissorhands were constantly on your TV screen. But then she kind of lost it in 2001, when she was busted for stealing nearly $5,000 worth of merchandise from Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills, despite being more than capable of paying for it on her own. Since then, she stepped out of the limelight, but she’s now returning with a new show on Netflix called Stranger Things and several mag interviews. Luckily this time around, she’s not talking about Johnny Depp.
The notoriously private actress opened up about relationships in a new interview with Net-a-Porter’s The Edit, explaining why she never got married despite being a serial monogamist. Her answer is unexpected, but incredibly adorable. Get ready for some early morning feels.
“I’m a serial monogamist,” Ryder says. “I was single for a while and dating and… I just didn’t know how to do it! I’ve always been like that: when I was 15, there was a guy I liked, and we made out, and I thought that meant he was my boyfriend. My mom had to explain it to me.”
She continued: “But marriage? I don’t know,” she muses. “I’d rather never have been married than been divorced a few times. Not that there’s anything wrong with divorce, but I don’t think I could do it if that was a possibility. When your parents are madly in love for 45 years, your standards are really high. But I’ve been happily with someone for quite a while now.”
Wait, I can’t. That is amazing. With the insanely high divorce rate, it’s nice to hear a story long-lasting true love. Now excuse me while I go cry for three hours and watch The Notebook.
