Here’s How Your Instagram Posts Reveal Your Age

Pennsylvania State, which was published this week, has found that people use Instagram in many different ways. It turns out that you can easily guess someone’s age based on what is in their feed.

Teens reply to comments with the average response time of 7.2 minutes whereas adults take their time and do not reply for around 30 minutes. You know, probably because adults have adult things to do and not avoid their chemistry homework, but I digress.

Another way to distinguish young people from older people is that teens have fewer posts than adults – but they do have more likes and comments.

“Teens want to be very popular so they’re very conscious of the likes they’re getting,” Dongwon Lee, an associate professor in the school’s College of Information Sciences and Technology who co-authored this research, said to The Atlantic.

The Washington Post highlights that in a May study, researchers found differences in the types of things adults and teens posted. Adults between the ages of 30-39 posted more about their location and nature and generally had more variety in their locations.

Teens, on the other hand, are not as likely to share images of the same caliber as they probably do not have the funds to go globe-trotting. Wouldn’t it be nice, though?
