Famous YouTube personality Gigi Gorgeous was recently released from a Dubai airport after she was detained for several hours for being Transgender. Gorgeous posted an emotional Instagram photo that shed light on the distressing situation.
“After being detained and held at the Dubai airport for over 5 hours, this was the moment my baby came to rescue me,” Gigi wrote. “Yesterday was one of the scariest moments of my entire life and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. How you can be denied entry somewhere just because of who you are is seriously disgusting and also very scary.”
“This further proves the need for CHANGE,” she continued. “I am now on my way to somewhere much more accepting. Safe and sound and happy. I love you guys.”
Gorgeous recounted the scary incident to TMZ on Tuesday, saying an immigration officer told her she couldn’t come into the country because she is transgender. Airport police claimed her passport photo depicted her as a male and that “imitation of women by men” is illegal in the country. Authorities also state that the passport sex was listed as “male.”
Gorgeous says otherwise. Born Gregory Lazzarato, Gorgeous changed her passport to read Gigi Loren after she transitioned, along with accompanying gender information. Regardless, authorities still have her passport and Gorgeous is currently trying to get out of the country.
