And just when you thought that there couldn’t be any more Oreo flavors possible, the cookie brand hits you with this one.
When photos of Oreo’s newest flavor first leaked online, no one wanted to believe it was true. They believed it was a Photoshop job, much like the Spam, Cheeseburger and Dill Pickle flavored ones that were shared far and wide.
However, it turns out that Oreo’s new Swedish fish flavor is entirely real and available for purchase.
These Oreos are only sold in Kroger stores, even though someone has posted a bag of them to eBay. It features the brand’s classic sandwich cookies, which surround a fire engine red cream filling that is supposed to taste like Swedish Fish.YouTube / Tasty Test.
If you find the new flavor confusing, you’re not alone. I mean, who really likes those waxy red fish that much to want them in an Oreo?
“Nabisco might as well have printed the word ‘WHY?’ on the side of every wafer,” writes The Impulsive Buy in its review of the cookies. The author describes the cream as less fluffy, but more “sticky, chewy and dare I say…slimy.”
While this flavor is certainly unexpected, it is not the first time Oreo has branched out into fruity cream flavors for its cookies. The brand has introduced flavors such as Key Lime Pie, Fruit Punch and Watermelon. They have also developed partnerships with other brands to create a new flavor for their cookies, like the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Oreos.
These Oreos are only going to be available for a short time, so if you’re a huge Oreo and Swedish Fish fan, it’s probably wise to hit up your local Kroger or eBay as soon as possible.
