What in the world goes on in the land of Hollywood?
In a recent interview with Vogue, Natalie Portman revealed that she prepared for her role in Black Swan without even knowing it. She says that the film’s director, Darren Aronofsky, would purposely try to pit her and Mila Kunis against each other in order for them to get ready for the film.
“He’d say, ‘Oh, Mila is doing really well on her stuff. She’s so much better than you,'” Portman recalled. She believes that Aronofsky was attempting to create a real life rivalry between the two actresses as the film’s major plot line is the conflict between Kunis and Portman. Aronofsky wanted to replicate the real world conflict in order to elicit the most authentic acting possible in Black Swan.
According to Refinery29, Aronofsky has denied these claims. He does admit, however, that he kept the two actresses apart during the entire 42-day filming process.
“I knew it might be really hard to keep them apart because they’re friends,” he said, “but I just didn’t want them to know each other’s motives.”
Unnecessary drama? Classic Hollywood.
