Lady Gaga Just Threw Some Serious Shade At Madonna

Lady Gaga’s new album Joanne comes out tomorrow, October 21, but that’s not what’s getting the biggest amount of buzz right now. Gaga recently did an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music and had some choice words for Madonna.

When Lowe brought up Madonna as a way to try and compare her to Gaga, Gaga went off. She told Lowe, “Madonna and I are very different… I don’t mean to disrespect Madonna, she’s a nice lady and she’s had a fantastic huge career, biggest pop star of all time. But I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I’m a producer. I’m a writer. What I do is different.” Check out the video below to hear Gaga’s comments about Madonna yourself, starting at the 31:04 mark.

Gaga went on to say that she meant no disrespect in her summation of her own career in comparison with Madonna’s. However, this just sounds like a serious amount of shade. Gaga’s implying that Madonna doesn’t write her own music or work as hard. It’s not a major stretch to see that Gaga might have been influenced by Madonna. They’re both uber-famous pop stars who sing about similar themes and who have helped to set the mold for singers who’ve come after them. Gaga should take it as a compliment that her work has some comparisons to Madonna. At the very least, there’s no need to get mad about it and try to shade her in the process.

To make matters even more awkward, Madonna was recently announced as a nominee for the 2017 Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. So… apparently, Gaga was wrong about them being all that different because Gaga actually writes her songs.

Twitter (i.e. Madonna fans) even went crazy after Gaga dissed the “Like a Virgin” singer.

Gaga also found herself in the middle of some drama with The Chainsmokers recently. A couple of the bandmates discussed Gaga’s single, “Perfect Illusion,” in Rolling Stone and didn’t really have great things to say about it. The group’s Alex Pall simply said, “It sucks.” Yikes. Gaga responded to the diss telling them to check out her other single “A-YO,” which includes lyrics about blowing smoke in someone’s face. She definitely got the upper hand in that feud. It doesn’t look like everyone’s on her side with the Madonna drama, though.
