Azealia is no stranger to celebrity feuds, but yesterday, she walked into another one — with Nicki Minaj. But before she went in on her fellow rapper, she revealed a painful secret to her fans: she had recently had a miscarriage.
“This wouldn’t be an Azealia Banks page without loads of oversharing right? Anywho, I’ve just had a miscarriage and am pretty taken aback by it all.” She admitted to experiencing confusion, depression, guilt and shock, and also confessed to feeling “like a failure and very ashamed.”
After revealing the secret to her fans, she reached out to them for help and advice.
“Has anyone else had this same experience who cares to share some words of wisdom or words of anything regarding this topic?” she asked. “The self-loathing bit is a real struggle for me at the moment so share any words here. They will be greatly appreciated.”
When one Facebook fan said that she should have kept the trauma to herself until she had “time to reflect,” Banks stood up for her decision to share, replying with, “”It’s life and we all live it together. Everyone farts, sh*ts, f*cks , eats and sleeps. It’s bodily function 101. Why the need for secrecy.”
In a later update, Banks stated, “I feel really stupid because I think I’m so big and bad an in control and in this situation I’m so powerless,” adding that when she first say “the embryro… I felt this full spirit around me and was looking down at this little bean in horror/amazement and now I just can’t NOT have an awareness of this person and won’t stop feeling like any and everything I’ve ever done in my life or want to do is pointless.”
But just a few hours later, Banks’ demeanor changed from melancholy to anger when she called out fellow rapper Nicki Minaj early this morning for things she should and shouldn’t do in the new year.
“Slim down a bit… Stop calling yourself the queen of rap,” the post starts. “I don’t understand why you are so impressed with yourself… In 2017 I hope you find some new inspiration and decrease your butt implants…” she wrote, before ending it with, “Cheers to female rap!”
Minaj fans — or as Banks lovingly called them in another Facebook post, “trolls” — claim the rant was in response to Minaj’s new mobile game Nicki Minaj: The Empire, in which a character called Fan2Sea. Banks put out a mixtape in 2012 called Fantasea, so the connection is totally plausible.
Since going viral, various posts have been deleted, claiming “I am not the same person I was two hours ago… Hope you Lot got your screenshots. It’s all jokes guys. Calm down and enjoy the holiday.” But make no mistake — Banks assures fans that her posts are definitely not an apology.
“Just to make sure we’re clear: deleting posts is not a sign of cowardice,” Banks wrote. “It’s a sign of the disposability of the people I go in on. I would never ever in my life give anyone I thought was less than me so much of an effort that I include them in my production or work. I would never include someone I disliked in my video game or music. Because those things are eternal.”
Now we’re just gonna sit back and wait for Minaj to retaliate. Things can only go south from here.
