Turn back now before it’s too late.
After a year of waiting to make it official, three-year-old Michael Brown was formally adopted on Tuesday. He was so overwhelmed with excitement that he couldn’t help but tell everyone at the courthouse about the news. Holding a sign that read “Some things are worth the wait. After 832 days in foster care, today I’m adopted,” Michael posed for photos with his two adoptive sisters, whom he lived with since 2015.
According to Buzzfeed News, the family was his third foster family, and his “case plan changed from reuniting him with his mom to severance and adoption.”
“His last name was already Brown so we knew it was meant to be,” his adoptive sister Dezhianna Brown, 17, said, adding that Michael has come a long way since his first days at his new home. “He’s a lot more outgoing now and you can now see the personality in him. Now when he sleeps with me, he’ll roll over in the morning and get super close to my face and say, ‘Dae, I so happy.’”
She continued, “He was so excited on the day. I don’t think he truly understood what being adopted meant. He just knew he was being adopted.”
Their celebratory photos are guaranteed to make you feel all of the feels. Check them out:
SO. ADORABLE. The internet seems to agree. After posting the photos online, Dezhianna got quite the response. In short: there were a ton of tears.
Michael was adopted right before the family spent their second Christmas together. If that doesn’t make you believe in Christmas miracles, I don’t know what will. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have plans to sob into a bottle of wine for an hour. Happy holidays, everybody!
