This Woman Was Fired From Her TV Job For Being ‘Too Attractive’–/?taken-by=hulseemma

Emma Hulse was literally five minutes into her freelancing gig at UNIT TV when she was sent home for being “too attractive.” According to Refinery29, the 24-year-old was told to go home by her manager after he claimed that she “should be on a catwalk” instead of in an office.

While speaking to the Evening Standard, Hulse explained that she came in for her shift at 9:30 A.M. and got straight to work. She was supposed to be there until 6 P.M., but her shift was quickly cut short by her sexist AF manager.

“Then my agent text me that I’m no longer required,” she said. “I got there and spoke to the line manager and he asked me, ‘Are you a model? Are you not doing catwalks, why are you not at the front of house?’”

She continued, “I was wearing a lipstick but from my perspective I was not inappropriate. I was wearing a shirt and trousers. I really didn’t think I looked inappropriate.” Afterwards, the man asked for her number and suggested they go for a drink.

Hulse, who works as a camera operator and has freelanced with a ton of other companies, says this is the first time she’s ever been sent home for the way she looked.

“Maybe that company employs plain looking people and maybe if you don’t look that way they don’t take you, maybe I was a distraction,” she said, adding, “”within a creative agency you should be free to wear what you want.”

Adam Luckwell, the owner of UNIT TV, has since come out and confirmed the story, explaining that the manager was fired after a three-month probation period.

“There were a number of things we were not happy with,” he said. “We decided not to continue with the employment and terminated the contract within three months… We felt he was a bad fit for us and some of the things he was doing was not in line with the company’s policy.”

Yeah… we sure hope that kind of behavior isn’t in line with the company’s policy. Kudos to Emma Hulse for speaking out and sticking up for herself. It goes without saying that the manager is a complete a**hole, but we’ll say it anyway: the manager is a complete a**hole.
