If you have any interest in movies, the night of the annual Academy Awards is your biggest night. Everyone’s favorite stars show up with glitz and glamour and join us for an evening of celebrating the best in film. After last year’s #WhiteOut, it is a relief to see a more diverse set of nominations and it is easy to say that this year’s nominations are all outstanding and well-deserving.
That being said, there can only be one winner. Though there is no actor that everyone is rooting for (congrats again, Leo!), everyone has their opinion on who deserves the win the most. Here is the list of who we think will win an Academy Award this year.

This one is definitely a close call. Considering Gosling won a Golden Globe for his performance and Washington won a SAG over Affleck, this one is almost too hard to guess. But Affleck is said to have given the performance of a lifetime in Manchester by the Sea and that’s something that deserves recognition.

I personally want Portman to win for her performance as Jackie Kennedy but alas, I know that is not going to happen. Stone has been sweeping the awards this season and I don’t think that is going to come to an end at the Oscars. She was truly phenomenal in La La Land and a win is definitely well-deserved.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role

Patel has blown both critics and viewers away for his performance in Lion. He is the clear winner for the Oscar this season, having won both a SAG and Golden Globe for his touching performance. This is Patel’s first nomination for the award and it will be no surprise when he wins.

Davis is definitely the fan fave to win the Oscar. Known for giving it all in her performances, Fences was no different. Davis won both the SAG and Golden Globe for best supporting actress. Her speech at the Golden Globes was very touching and you could tell how much this role meant to her personally. Winning the Oscar would be three-for-three.
Best Picture

All of the pictures this year were artistic and extremely well done. But Moonlight stood above them all. This story was extremely important to hear, especially in light of recent political and social events. How often are there movies about queer black men and the pressures they face growing up? Moonlight was introspective and really touched the hearts and minds of viewers. For those reasons, it deserves a win.
