All Of Our Favorite ‘Vampire Diaries’ Quotes From The Past Eight Seasons

After eight tumultuous and bloody seasons, Vampire Diaries is officially coming to a close. There is no other show that can compare to the drama of Vampire Diaries. From the sadistic villains, love triangles, spells and murders to the complexity of the characters’ ancient origins, it’s safe to say that the show has left us all feeling a little more than attached. From Nina Dobrev‘s departure to her reunion for the finale, there’s nothing we haven’t been through.

A part of us is also somewhat relieved that we can finally get some closure on the characters’ lives. Part of what has made the show so epic has been because of all the quotes that have been said over the eight seasons. In the last season, producer Julie Plec has made it a point to title all episodes with pivotal quotes. Here are all our favorites.

Season One

“You want a love that consumes you. You want passion and adventure and even a little danger. I want you to get everything you’re looking for. But for right now, I want you to forget that this happened.” -Damon Salvatore

The first of many interactions between Damon and Elena, just two strangers on a dark and empty road. Though Damon erased Elena’s memory of their first meeting, little did she know that he was right.

“Somewhere along the way, you decided I was worth saving. I wanted to thank you for that.” -Damon Salvatore

Though Damon thought he was talking to Elena, he was actually saying this to Katherine. Although Elena was a damsel in distress throughout most of the show, she emotionally saved the Salvatore brothers countless times.

Season Two

“It’s okay to love them both. I did.” -Katherine Pierce

Though Elena never wanted to be thought of as being similar to Katherine, they proved to be more alike than anyone had anticipated.

“No, no, Damon, listen, I care about you. I do. But I love Stefan. It’s always gonna be Stefan.” -Elena Gilbert

This scene was the first of many times Elena had to choose between the Salvatore brothers.

Season Three

“Because when people see good, they expect good. And I don’t want to have to live up to anyone’s expectations.” -Damon Salvatore

Though blatantly flawed, Damon redeemed himself in many instances throughout the show.

Season Four

“I used to think the worst feeling in the world was losing someone you love, but I was wrong. The worst feeling in the world is the moment that you realize you’ve lost yourself.” -Elena Gilbert

Once Elena became a vampire, she realized she had bigger problems than attempting to pick which brother to love.

“This town, this crazy ass world we live in, sometimes not being willing to accept that someone is gone is because maybe they’re not. At least not completely.” -Matt Donovan

Matt had a front-row seat through all of the murders and deaths, and somehow, he’s still here.

Season Five

“So, how do you help the guy who always comes to the rescue? Stefan’s the hero; it’s who he is at his core. He can’t always come through for himself but he can always come through for everyone else.” -Katherine Pierce

There’s never been a more accurate depiction of Stefan Salvatore. Having known each other for centuries must help.

Season Six

“It doesn’t matter what book your mom reads in her final precious moments. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or if it’s terrible. It doesn’t matter because life isn’t about your final moments. It’s about the moments that led up to them.”  -Stefan Salvatore

I would trust the advice of someone who’s been around for hundreds of years.

“No matter how much I missed you or how much pain I was in, I never would have erased everything we ever had. Even if I was drowning in grief, I’d rather hang on to every moment that I ever held you or every laugh I ever heard, every shred of happiness that we ever had. I would rather spend every moment in agony than erase the memory of you.” -Damon Salvatore

Damon said this to Elena after she erased her memories of him and after he came back to life. Damon reminds us why we love him.

“Yesterday you told me that you made a list of all the ways that loving me has ruined your life, and I get it. I haven’t made it easy on you, but I made a list too. Of all the ways that loving you has changed mine. You were by my side when I needed a friend. You made me laugh, you made me dance. You told me that I would find love again, and I understand if you need time to heal and to live your life without me. I understand if I have to wait for you. And I will. I’ll wait. And when you’re ready for me, I will be ready for you.” -Stefan Salvatore

Caroline taught Stefan how to move on from unrequited love.

“I don’t think Elena necessarily came into my life to be my soulmate. I mean, she was. We loved each other, but she was also the only person I’ve ever met who actually believed that my brother was worth loving. And she reminded me that I used to believe that about him too. Her faith in him, it brought Damon and me back together, and yeah, I loved her, more than I thought I could love somebody else, but I think in the end I needed him more than I needed her.” -Stefan Salvatore

While TVD may be about epic love stories, perhaps the best one was between the Salvatore brothers.

Season Seven

“I have always wanted to be loved by someone in the way that you loved me. And I would rather have these memories than a future where I destroy them.” -Bonnie Bennett

Alas, the constant struggle between the present and the future.

“I don’t know who I am without you, but I know that as long as I’m with you, time will stand still. So, who is Damon Salvatore without Elena Gilbert? A selfish friend, a jealous brother, a horrible son? Or maybe with a little luck, I’ll do right by you. Because you may be a thousand miles away or a hundred years away, but you’re still here with me and my heart is right there in that coffin with you. Until you come back to me.” -Damon Salvatore

End. Game.

Season Eight

“Dear Bonnie, I am a coward. I should be saying this to your face, not writing this letter, but I know if I do, you’ll talk me out of running away from all my problems. You’re going to make me face a future without Elena and you’re going to help make me the best man I can possibly be, the same way she did. And I’m absolutely terrified of failing you both. So, I’m leaving because I’d rather let you down once than let you down for the rest of your life. And I hope it’s the happiest life because you, Bonnie Bennett, are an amazing woman, a mediocre crossword puzzle player and my best friend. With great love and respect, Damon.” -Damon Salvatore

Bonnie taught Damon how to be a friend and how to live without Elena by his side. If this letter wasn’t epic, adding the fact that Damon recited this by memory, we don’t know what is.

“Are you an island girl or a village girl? Wait! Answer me, Stefan, this is important. Who are you in the story? Are you the victim, who tried for years not to feed on human blood, only for his selfish brother to blow into town and ruin it all? Or are you the monster who sealed his brother’s fate the day you forced him to turn into a vampire, only to doom him to an eternity of misery because you were afraid of being alone.” -Sybil

Stefan and Sybil could relate to each other in a way no one else could.
