When someone comments on how you’ve slimmed down or says that your body is looking skinnier than ever, most people take it as a compliment. A lot of people might say it shows that people are noticing the work you’re putting in at the gym or makes you feel better. But not all people find ‘skinny’ to be flattering.
Plus-size model Candice Huffine hates it if you tell her that she’s looking slimmer. Just commenting on her body in general gets her salty. She also wanted to make it known and spread the message as to why “skinny” is a compliment to most people, but not to her.
The body-positive beauty recently posted on Instagram a photo of herself with her shirt swept up to expose her belly rolls, captioning the photo with a message from her notebook, written nearly a year ago and questioning why people feel grateful when being told they look skinny or appear slimmer.
“How come when people say ‘wow you look skinny’ we say thank you?” Huffine mentioned in her Instagram.
Even though Huffine’s message here doesn’t bash those who are skinny, she wants to keep her words on the more general side. As a model, she doesn’t want to forcefully change her body to please her career. She’s mentioned in her caption that during the times when she’s slimmed down, she was dealing with “stress, a breakup, lack of self-care, something traumatic.” Therefore, accepting herself and staying fit to the point where she believes is best is what truly keeps her content.
“It’s always about size, not ability and sometimes it overjoys us for someone to say we shrunk,” Huffine continued on her post. “Well, I’ve changed my mindset once and for all. My stomach can jiggle and roll up when I sit for all of eternity, but if I can be healthy and strong and finish this race, then I’m complete.”
