Okay, so Sheeran Fever is a real, diagnosable thing. So much so that a UK resident recently found herself in jail for loving the pop singer just a little bit too much. Sonia Bryce was sentenced to eight weeks in jail for allegedly displaying unruly behavior towards her neighbors. What’s absolutely hilarious about this whole thing is that Sonia’s unruly behavior isn’t at all what you would expect.
ITV reports that Bryce received numerous noise complaints from her neighbors and landlords for playing Ed Sheeran’s hit single, “Shape Of You” on repeat for a half an hour.
Clare Tidmarsh, a neighbor of Sonia’s, spoke to The Sun about the disturbances. Tidmarsh says that not only has her neighbor made her hate apartment buildings but also the entirety of Ed Sheeran’s discography. “I used to like Ed Sheeran but I’ve taken him off my playlist. It drove us crazy,” Tidmarsh said.
In court, Bryce denied ever playing the song, claiming that she wasn’t a fan. Unfortunately for Sonia, her previous issues did not help her out in this situation. Due to her previous noise citations (she completed a six-week jail stint in February for breaking an injunction filed by her landlords), Judge Philip Gregory upped her new sentence to eight weeks. “You must learn that you should behave as a reasonable and responsible adult and not make life for your neighbors the misery that you have,” he said. “I am quite convinced that you do not care tuppence about the effect that your behavior has upon perfectly decent and respectable people next door.”
Clearly the UK is very serious about noise complaints. Check out the song that sent Sonia to jail below. Don’t be too loud.
If loving this is a crime, lock us up and throw away the key.
