Barry Manilow Just Came Out & Revealed That He’s Been Dating A Man For The Last 40 Years

||

It’s never too late to come out, something that 73-year-old Barry Manilow just proved. The singer arguably best known for the song “Copacabana” just revealed to fans that he’s been dating his manager Garry Kief for the past 40 years. The two had a very small and private wedding in 2014 with only 20-30 people in attendance. People magazine, along with other news sources, reported on it but nothing was ever officially confirmed. While rumors about Manilow’s sexuality have been around for years, he also never addressed them.

“I thought I would be disappointing them if they knew I was gay. So I never did anything,” Manilow told People magazine in an exclusive interview. “When [the fans] found out that Garry and I were together, they were so happy. The reaction was so beautiful — strangers commenting, ‘Great for you!’ I’m just so grateful for it.”

Prior to his relationship with Kief, Manilow was briefly married to his high school sweetheart Susan Deixler. Their marriage didn’t last though, not due to his hidden sexuality but because Manilow felt he wasn’t ready to settle down yet and his top priority was his music career. After their year long marriage, Kief entered the picture.

The pair hit it off in 1978 as Kief became his manager and eventually the President of Barry Manilow Productions. Kief always preferred to be out of the spotlight, something that he clearly managed to achieve for the past 40 years.

Coming out is never easy and it was clearly hard for Manilow to share this piece of his life with the whole world. We commend him for his bravery and wish him and his partner the best of luck, not that they need it.
