Rumor has it that former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger will be playing Elphaba in the upcoming movie adaptation of the legendary Broadway play Wicked. Sources claim that the singer, dancer and soon-to-be film actress has been in communication with Universal and they think she’d be perfect for the role.

Scherzinger has been excited about the possibility of starring in a movie, and with the current trajectory of her career it only makes sense. Following the breakup of the Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger had a brief stint on the stage in 2015, where she landed an Oliver nomination for her roll as Grizabella in Cats before returning as a judge on The X-Factor.

This wouldn’t be her first step into major movie acting. She also voiced Sina, the protagonist’s mother, in Disney’s 2016 animated musical Moana. Now she’s got her eyes set to go live action on the silver screen.

Of course, diehard Wicked fans will say nobody but Idina Menzel can (or should) play the infamous, green wicked witch of the west, but the original Elfie has apparently been told that she and former co-star Kristin Chenoweth were too old for their respective roles in this adaptation.

What are your thoughts? If you were in the director’s chair, who would you cast?
