What do you do when you already have two kids and don’t want anymore? Most women would go on birth control. That is what one Alabama mom, Lucy Hellein, and her partner decided was right for them after having two children. Though there are many forms of birth control, Hellein decided to go with an IUD. Even with the IUD, Hellein learned in December that she was pregnant again. She delivered her son, Dexter, last Thursday. After delivery, she managed to catch a candid shot of her son that has now gone viral. The candid shot is of her son holding on to the very device that was supposed to prevent his birth in the first place.
Hellein spoke to Metro and explained that she had her third IUD inserted in August, and by December she found out that she was 18 weeks pregnant.
“This was actually my third Mirena, my first two worked great, I had this one inserted back in August,” she said. “I found out I was pregnant in December and I’ll admit I was scared because of the Mirena.”
More shocking than anything else is the fact that her doctor couldn’t locate the IUD.
“My Mirena was nowhere to be found on ultrasound so my OB assumed that it had fallen out, but I wasn’t convinced,” she told Metro
When she gave birth via C-section last Thursday, the doctors were able to locate her implant which happened to be behind her placenta.
This circumstance is extraordinarily rare. IUDS are one of the most effective forms of birth control and the Mirena, which is meant to last for five years, has a 99% effectiveness rate. While IUDs can and do get dislodged, the exact circumstances and details of Hellein’s case are still unknown.
Twitter was floored by Hellein’s story.
That baby that was born with an IUD in his hand is destined for greatness. He/she defeated death before being born lol

Resilience is literally being born with the IUD, meant to stop you, gripped tight in your hand. That baby is forged in the fire.

Seems as though her body just wasn’t done having babies no matter how hard she tried to deter it.
