“What’ll it be?”
It’s the age-old question that still haunts bar-goers and bartenders to this day. You might not think much about what you order at the bar, but your preferred drink can say a lot about you. Bartenders aren’t the only ones that will silently judge you for your drink order. Your date will too.
By the way, if your date ever orders a shot of Bacardi 151, run.
A study conducted by WineBags surveyed over 1,000 Americans about their preferred drink orders and how they were perceived by others in different age groups and of the opposite sex. The results will have you second-guessing your favorite order at the bar.
If you’re on a date, don’t order a round of shots and, for the love of God, don’t order the cheap well liquor. According to WineBags, men and women agreed that the most attractive drink to order was wine, with craft beer coming in second. First impressions are important after all, and it seems wine and craft beer make you seem more mature and confident. If you want to impress your date, know what kind of wine or beer you like. Personally I’m a rosé and white wine kind of girl.
As for mixed drinks, they’re all fine and dandy, but you don’t want to give the wrong vibe by ordering a sex on the beach on the first date. God forbid you order your date a blowjob shot. Seriously, don’t do it.
Not all drinks are considered equal between men and women. I’m all for equality, but you can’t deny that there’s a clear difference between a woman ordering a fuzzy navel and a man ordering one. Here are the most attractive drink orders based on gender.
The survey revealed that the most attractive drink for women to order was wine. I’m not surprised. There’s something sophisticated and classy about drinking a glass of wine. Water and other nonalcoholic beverages came in second. Thank goodness for that. I am not the most attractive drunk, so I try to avoid the hard hitting drinks at the bar.
As for men, craft beer was the most attractive drink of choice. When I say craft beer, I don’t mean the usual Budweiser and Coors Light. Those are more for the college party scene. Think more along the lines of Guinness or IPAs.
Now that you’ve ordered your drinks, you and your date must be chatting it up. Throw in some flirting, casual hair flipping and biting your lower lip. It’s about time to head home. How many drinks have you had? Even if your date approves of your drink order, there’s still the matter of how many you’ve had. WineBags asked participants about how they perceived drunk decisions.
The results were to be expected. Nearly 49% of participants saw ordering another round after appearing tipsy extremely negatively with 15% of them staying neutral on the matter. If you know your limit, then that’s enough.
If you or your date encourages you to drink more, that’s a big red flag. WineBags asked surveyors what they thought about encouraging someone to drink more and more than 60% collectively agreed that they saw it negatively. If you know your limit, don’t let someone pressure you into drinking more than that.
I also get it if you don’t want to drink alcohol at all on a date, especially if it’s with someone you don’t quite know yet. Don’t worry if you think it’ll affect your game. Most participants saw not drinking alcohol on a date positively (with nearly 21% giving somewhat positive responses and 34% giving extremely positive responses). Being responsible is so much more attractive than being drunk at the end of the night.
The next time you set up a date at the bar, make sure you have a drink in mind. Take a break from ordering that Long Island iced tea for a night if you want to drink to impress.
