The political world has been stained with scandals and dark dealings, but Anthony Weiner has quite the infamous resume under his sleeve. Weiner was born on September 4, 1964, in Brooklyn, New York. He is the middle child of three in a Jewish household. He had two other brothers: Seth, his older brother that was killed in a hit-and-run accident at the age of 39, and Jason, his younger brother, who is currently a chef and co-owner of several New York restaurants.
Weiner attended the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, as well as participated in an exchange program at The College of William and Mary. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, Weiner was hired as a staff member of the House of Representatives.
1991 – 2010
After working under Senator Charles Schumer for six years, Weiner won the Democratic primary elections and earned his own seat. He was considered the youngest councilman in the New York City Council at the age of 27 and worked to improve quality of life, as well reform troubled teens by putting them to work.
In 2005, Weiner tried to run as mayor of New York against three other candidates. Unfortunately, his ideas and political policies weren’t popular with voters. He eventually conceded from the race. He tried to run again in 2009, however the New York City Council extended Mayor Bloomberg’s term by popular vote.
In 2010, Weiner married Huma Abedin, who acted as Hillary Clinton’s personal aide. The two later had a son, Jordan Zain Weiner.
2011 – 2013
It seems like almost all politicians are doomed to scandal eventually throughout their career. Weiner’s first scandal consisting of sharing elicit photos of the sexual nature, to which he shared with women over Twitter. Despite denying reports to posting any sexual photos of himself on Twitter, he admitted to sending other photos to a woman during his marriage.
In June 2011, Weiner officially announced intentions to resign from congress, however he eventually returned to the world of politics in April 2013 by running for major of New York City. Unfortunately, he lost the primary again, only winning 4.9% of the votes.
2016 – Present
Despite working hard to overcome his previous scandal, Weiner fell into the trap again in 2016. Weiner was found sexting a 15-year-old girl after the FBI investigated him. His laptop was also searched through, revealing that he may have been linked to the infamous Hillary Clinton email controversy in the most recent presidential election. After Weiner pleaded guilty to his most recent sexting scandal, his wife separated from Weiner in 2016 and filed for divorce in 2017.
