This was by far one of the best episodes of Riverdale this season. Giving the killer a voice is the best decisions the writers could have made. There is a connection between the Black Hood and Betty. With the Black Hood having a voice, I think we can get a glimpse of what he is thinking and the relationship he has with Betty.
Last week’s episode picks up right where we left off: when Betty gets a call from the killer. The Black Hood proceeded to tell her that he was trying to cleanse Riverdale of its sinners. He threatened that he would kill Polly if Betty went to the police or Jughead with information about their conversation. The Black Hood said nothing about Archie, so without breaking the rules that were given to her, she casually told Archie. The next time the killer called, Archie was in the room, listening. This time when he called, he had a request for Betty to prove her loyalty. Betty needed to publish her mother’s old mugshot from her days on the South Side. If she did this, she would get to ask the Black Hood one question.
While Betty was trying to figure out who the Black Hood was, Jughead was busy joining the South Side Serpents. If he could survive initiation, that is. Oh, Jug. What are you doing? Why the sudden change of heart?
When the Black Hood called again, he wanted Betty to start cutting her friends out of her life because he felt like they Betty didn’t need anyone else in her life. First, it’s Veronica. Now, that’s easy, all she needed to do was pick a fight with Ronnie and their friendship would be over… for now at least. Next, it was Jughead. Ugh. All the Bughead shippers died in this moment as Archie told Jughead to stay away from Betty. Jughead didn’t wait too long and shared a kiss with Toni, another member of the Serpent family. I hated it and I am not a fan. Betty and Jughead all the way.
The episode ended with the Black Hood revealing that he knew she was sharing all their conversations with Archie and that now he will have to go after Polly…unless she could give him another name. Panicking, one name came to Betty’s mind, Nick St. Clair, Veronica’s ex-boyfriend. Before hanging up the phone, the Black Hood said, “I told you we were the same.” WHO IS THE BLACK HOOD? I need to know. Now.
