Mamma Mia 2 Cast: Who’s Back & Who’s Joining

Here We Go Again… Tie up your platforms and get ready to have ABBA stuck in your head for a week. 10 Years after the Broadway production made its big screen debut with performances by Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep, a sequel has been announced for release. Taking on the roles of this timeless classic and its new additions for the second film may have posed a challenge in perfecting the cast but you don’t need to wait until July 20, 2018 to see who’s up for it.

And neither is Donna Sheridan, also known as Meryl Streep. Fans worried that the teaser did not have enough Donna in it and cryptic insinuations that she will not be their for the birth of her grandchild would mean that she didn’t make the cut. This is unlikely but they want to focus on the young Donna, played by Lily James. James will embody the Donna that started it all, and gave the term baby-daddy a whole new meaning with a lack of regard for hers. While James provided chivalrous hope in the 2015 Cinderella remake, she seems to make a flawless transition into this messy new love story. The sought-after leading lady in Mamma Mia 2 has a love interest picked out for her in new actor, Josh Dylan. Her love interest will be new actor, Josh Dylan. It is rumored that Bill, a Swedish sailor who is the primary suspect as the father of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), will be played by Dylan. Or maybe she chooses to make a baby with Sam Carmichael, also known as Jeremy Irvine… We’ll have to wait and see but I’m definitely taking notes on how to juggle 3 boyfriends.

Are You Strong Enough to handle Cher and the Star-Studded Returning Cast?

That’s right, the iconic Cher will be joining the cast. Aside from being one of Kim Kardashian‘s Halloween costumes, Cher has a long list of credits that make her one of the most favored new additions. We don’t know what this queen’s role is yet but we know she will compliment the vocal stylings of Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Dominic Cooper, and of course Amanda Seyfried. They will all reprise their roles from the first film. Newcomers, Jessica Keenan Wynn and Alexa Davies will play the younger Baranski and Walters characters, which makes for a fun-filled few hours of love, loss, and musical irony.

Dancing Queens, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme!

While Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again offers its own soundtrack, we can look forward to that same energy from the ensemble. According to Glamour ABBA hits that weren’t used in the first film, including Knowing Me, Knowing You and Waterloo, will likely make the cut this time. Sometime around July 20 2018 we’ll see who else decides to make an appearance in this colorful place in Greece…
