Karen Lucille Hale was born in Memphis, Tennessee on June 14, 1989 to parents Julie Knight, a nurse and Preston Hale. As a child, she was homeschooled and began to take acting and singing lessons, that led her to audition for the reality TV show American Juniors in 2003. She became part of a singing group with the top 5 finishers in the competition, eventually splitting up in 2005 due to low sales in their music. Luckily for Hale she has signed a record deal as a solo singer for Hollywood Records in 2012 releasing her first song and album. Even though Hale had a successful head start in her music career at a young age, unfortunately, things weren’t always on the happy side as she has admitted in the past to suffering from an eating disorder in her childhood.
At the age of 15 Hale left Memphis and moved to Los Angeles with hopes of expanding her music career, but instead took a turn into the acting world and shortly began starring in small roles on television shows such as Drake & Josh, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, The O.C,Bionic Woman, How I Met Your Mother, and on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, as the love interest of lead actor David Henrie. Hale made her first big screen debut on The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, Portraying the younger sister of Lena Kaligaris (Alexis Bledel). After this, she continued working in movies starring in the Lifetime original film Sorority Wars.
In 2009, Hale landed her lead role as Aria Montgomery in the book and television series Pretty Little Liars, which gave her recognition and numerous nominations and wins, such as The Teens Choice Award for “Choice Summer TV Star: Female” in 2010. Even though the show was a success and would continue to be for seven more years, she still did projects on the side, guest starring in on CSI: Miami and later cast in a cameo for Scream 4. In 2011 the actress was cast on a Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song, that was released directly to video. Hale continued her dream of singing debuting her single “You Sound Good to Me” on January 7, 2014, with her debut album to follow later in the year. The song’s music video came out on February 18, 2014, and Hale’s studio album was announced to be called Road Between with a release date on June 3, 2014. With such talent and ambition, Hale’s career certainly is not ending anytime soon as the 28-year-old has a movie Truth or Dare and Television show Life Sentence, both coming out in 2018.
