Ellen Kathleen Pompeo was born in Everet, Massachusetts on November 10th, 1969. She is the daughter of Joseph E. Pompeo and Kathleen B. Pompeo, her mother died of a painkiller overdose when Ellen was five, and her father died on September 1st in 2002. The actress was raised with five siblings and eventually moved to Miami, working as a bartender when she met Fashion Photographer Andrew Rosenthal and began a relationship with him. The couple then moved to New York City together where she was approached by a Casting Director.
After being discovered in 1995, Pompeo started working in commercials for Citi Bank and L’Oreal.
